Growing plant is one of life great pleasure. I am not an exception. Dazzling flowers, graceful foliage in and around our little heaven  “ Derothy” was my one of the dream. So before shifting to our new  house we have started ground work for the same. We have planted few  items in our rented house. I am not an expert in gardening .So I was in a dilemma to select the variety of plants for my  garden.

Starting  from few palms, ficus and few varieties  of roses , now we  have good collection of  indoor  and out door plants.

In this Blog, I would like to share, my experience in plant caring, weed  and pest controlling  . More over I would like to gather advice from visitors of  this  blog  to enrich my exper9ince in gardening.

Since we have very small land in the heart of CALICUT  town  , and majority of area is occupied by our home, we decide to  grow plants in containers. Hanging pots were my  one of wishes  and we  kept lot of metallic  hooks at the  edge of  the sunshades and roof shades. While selecting the item for my hanging pots I have e no second choice it was spider plant. Through some  friends I came to know it is easy to grow and maintain.

Spider plants also known as “Spider Ivy or ribbon plant or hen and chicken”. It is originally from south Africa and  it actual name is “Chlorophytum”. Some  places it is also know as “St Bernard Lilly”.

All Chlorophytum family members are  with clumps of  long curving leaves . Miniature plants are growing at the  tips of long stumps. Tiny white flowers appear at the end of stumps before baby plants sprout.

Chlorophytum  are very easy to propagate. Keep a small quantity of potting mixture under the baby plants which are growing at the tip of long stumps. After one week we can cut the stump from mother plant. You can also take a single plant from the clump.

Soil, organic manures ,river sand in 2:1:1 is the normal potting mixture. A small quantity of neem  cake also good for mixture. This plant like frequent misting and bright reflected light. Brown color at the tip of the leaf is are the indication of dry soil. Plant like fertilizer in liquid form. It is better to rotate the position of the pot to  grow the baby sprouts in all direction.
